Anxiety & Depression

Anxiety and depression often co-occur. About 1 in 6 adults will have depression at some point in their life. Risk factors for depression have a genetic, biological and environmental basis.

Trauma & attachment

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are traumatic events that occur in childhood. ACEs can include violence, abuse, and growing up in a family with mental health or substance use problems. Toxic stress from ACEs can change brain development and affect how the body responds to stress. ACEs are linked to a variety of issues.

Life stressors

Life stressors are inevitable. The most common ones I hear are finances, career choice, parenting, blending a family, relationship barriers, divorce or constant overwhelm due to a combination of issues.

The times are changing!

Men's Issues:

Most men are brought up hearing expressions such as "don't cry" and "man up". These messages from family, friends, and culture cause males to create protective and sometimes maladaptive coping mechanisms around their feelings. Ironically, men are taught not to express feelings in their youth and then expected to show emotional intimacy in adult relationships. I help men learn a new way of communicating their feelings through vulnerability with the goal of enhancing marital and relationship satisfaction.

Women's issues:

Motherhood: You might feel like you have to wear so many hats that it's hard to juggle it all. I specialize in working with women who are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and burnt out. I help women reconnect to themselves or sometimes even discover a new identity and purpose!
